This book is written and produced by three passionate women, and Dr Jane Goodall has written the foreword. This global knitting book book is inspired by the need to create an endangered animal book that will support the species chosen, by not only raising awareness, but also raising funds and supporters for endangered species and their cause. The creators hope and believe, that the actual knitting of the jumpers, will inspire learning and conversations across generations, on animals, the issues they face and what can be done to save them. The book highlights each animal with their own photos, sweater pattern, fact and work sheets, and many additional activities, so this book can be also used in many other animal related educational organizations. Each animal will have a story, that focuses on the species, so it’s a personal story and will connect knitters with the organizations, their websites and hopefully inspire positive action. Present situation The endangered animals were sourced from the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN’s) Red List. Seventeen animals were chosen. The authors particularly did not choose iconic animals, so that they could raise the profile of animals less charismatic yet still needing help. The animals chosen, represent the Planet and the different major habitats, and are flagship species for their Family groups. Like the Chimpanzee represents the Order of Primates and Great Apes. These animals are endangered for a variety of causes, also highlighted in the book, with ideas on what readers and knitters can do to help.
