Resistance, Reflection and Change is a response to international interest in Nordic disability research. For a long time, the Nordic countries have been known for their progressive and innovative disability policies. The field of Nordic disability research has developed over the last 30 years, often with inspiration from progressive policies, but equally often with a critical perspective on ongoing reforms. The object of this book is to present a selection of current Nordic research from Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland and Iceland to an international audience.
The work of one of the early pioneers in the field, the Swedish sociologist Mårten Söder, is especially acknowledged in this book in connection with his 60th birthday. His relational perspective on disability has strongly influenced the Nordic approach, as has his critical perspective which has challenged his colleagues to analyse the ways in which disability is embedded in complex relations of interests and power.
The book is designed for a broad international audience, including professionals in the disability field, students, researchers and others with an interest in disability, welfare and inclusion, etc.The ambition with the series “Social Research on Disability” is to introduce Nordic scientific research oriented towards disability to an international audience.
Series Editors are Ove Mallander and Magnus Tideman, senior lecturers at the universities of Malmö and Halmstad, Sweden.
