Nordic Architecture Tomteboda

Brutal or playful? Santa’s workshop or mail terminal? Monotone or monumental? Tomteboda leaves no one unaffected. And that regardless of whether we see the building from the train or one of the many highways that surround this colossal structure just a stone’s throw from downtown Stockholm. Since the beginning of the ‘80s, when the edifice was built, Tomteboda has been an icon for long-distance travelers and commuters as well as for the many enthusiasts who look upon Tomteboda as a unique architectural creation of international caliber. More recently, the building has undergone a metamorphosis – from an ultra-modern mail terminal to a multifunctional workplace. Today there is an exciting mix of activities and enterprises here that sets the stage for fortuitous meetings and also provides a rich variety of recreational opportunities. Here we tell the story (and the history) of the building, but also of the place going back through the ages. And then, of course, of all the people who once lived and worked here, and those who now, once again, fill the building with life, as well as those who played a part in developing Tomteboda into something new for our time. And beyond that, we gaze quite a way forward into an imagined future.
