Holmgard is a beautiful map 700 mm high and 1000 mm wide, portraying the capital city of Sommerlund, where Lone Wolf and the Kai Monastery are from. Joe Dever has made detailed descriptions for the illustrator and cartographer Francesco Mattioli, who then painted the map by hand. First as a sketch, than in ink and finally putting color to it. We love this inspiring portrayal of a fantasy city and anybody interested in maps and cartography will find things to love in various details. If you are one of the millions of people who have  read and played Flight from the Dark, the first interactive choose your own adventure story in the epic Lone Wolf book series will find many of places you recognise from the book. Still, it is beautiful enough to hang on a wall if you never read the Lone Wolf books too.

The Sommerlund Maps - Complete Collection features this map and 9 others, all from Sommerlund. The other city maps are Toran, Tyso, Anskaven, Ruanon, Moytura and Silvershore. Then you get the Kai Monastery, Sommerlund and the Sommer Isles. They are all gprgeous and inspiring, but Holmgard is the best of them.

Processen då Francesco Mattioli först skissade fram staden utifrån Joe Devers anvisningar, för att sedan diskutera detaljer kring allt från vattenförsörjning till hur bränder och annat Joe skrivit ner om stadens historia kan återspeglas i kartan. Det ledde till en del ändringar innan det var dags för Francesco att tuscha sitt verk och slutligen färglägga det. Det var en tidskrävande process, vilket nog är en anledning till det stämningsfulla resultatet.
